Half Marathon 21.1 km – Route description:

Starting point: Moab Observation Point, in Arad.

From the starting point, there’s a moderate incline of about 500 meters.

Then, about 400 meters descent.

Landmark 900 meters, turn left onto a side road.

Landmark 1.2 km, right turn and right again and return to the main road.

Landmark 1.5 km, Tturn left onto the road leading to Masada West.

Landmark 3 km, Arad cemetery, begins a moderate ascent of about 55m across about 2 km.

Landmark 5 km, cumulative descent of about 320 m across 6 km, till the 8km mark.

Landmark 10 km, Hanokdim village on the right (starting point of 11 km heat).

Landmark 11 km, cumulative ascent of about 100 meters over a distance of about 2 km till 10km mark.

Landmark 13 km, rolling hills (some ascents are short but steep).

Landmark 16 km, cumulative descent of about 320 meters till 21 the end.

The last 4 kilometers of the race are a steep descent.

11km course – route description:

The 11 km heat leaves Hanokdim village (map ref. 10) to Masada.

Starting point – Hanokdim village.

From the starting point, the route is level for about 1 kilometer.

Landmark 1km, cumulative ascent of about 100 meters over about 2 km till 3km mark.

3km to 6km, rolling hills (some ascents are short but steep).

Landmark 6km, cumulative descent of about 320 meters till the end.

The last 4 kilometers of the race are a steep descent.

Route highlights:

  • The first half of the half marathon route (10 km) runs mostly through a nature reserve. Be careful not to throw garbage (gel wrappers, etc.) by the side of the road.
  • The race takes place late at night.
  • The route is partly trail and partly on a paved road.
  • Trails are mostly wide and comfortable, but there are a few sections of more narrow paths.
  • The track is very dark.
  • You must run with a headlamp/flashlight.
  • Route is of medium difficulty. It has ups and downs and some challenging inclines.
  • The last 4 kilometers of the route is a steep descent.
